Toll Gate Along The Bridgeton-Millville Turnpike
These pictures show the toll booth that once stood on the northwest corner of Sharp and West Main Streets in Millville, N. J. According to our files here at the historical society, the house was there as early as 1840, and it was known to be the oldest house on West Main Street. The gate house was rebuilt at least twice before it was torn down in 1975 to become a parking lot for Kirby's Bar. Today it is the location of the Sidelines Sports Bar. Also pictured is a ticket recently uncovered at the historical society that shows that at one time the toll was 18 cents!
